Massey Ferguson has revised its high-horsepower tractors to reveal six new models from 160hp to 215hp.

The Agco-owned company has revised the 6400 and 7400 series machines in line with emissions legislation which sees the units fitted with Sisu tier III, four-valve, common rail engines.

Massey Ferguson has taken the decision to fit its Beauvais-built Dyna-6 box as standard across the 6400 range while the 7400 models are fitted with the Dyna-VT continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The Dyna-6 transmission is a simple mechanical gearbox, offering 24 speeds, with four ranges, each with six powershifts.

Powerboost – which was previously available on the 6400 series only as a pto feature – is now available in transport mode.

The tractors must be in either third or fourth range for the extra ten horse-power to kick in.

The 6400 units come as standard with a 40-kph transmission but the firm says that a 50-kph option is available.

Tractors specified with the 50-kph box come equipped with front axle suspension.

Massey Ferguson also claims that the 6400 units can achieve 50kph at 1900rpm, a lower engine speeds than previously possible.

The firm has also made some design and styling changes to incorporate the cooling package required on a tier III engine.

The bonnet is now a one-piece tilting hood with revised air vents for cooling.

A chassis type frame extends from under the cab which is integrated into the engine itself.

This frame also holds the front linkage – if specified – or alternatively the weight frame.

The radiators and coolers to the fore of the engine are cleverly hinged to open out for cleaning as, too, is the air filter which is easily located for servicing, according to the firm.

The units are set to be available towards the end of this year.
