PROFITS HAVE risen for the sixth year running at Cumbria-based Carr‘s Milling Industries.

Final results for the year ending Aug 28 saw turnover rise by almost 5% to £155.7m and pre-tax profits increase 26% to £5.13m.

Operating profit at the firm‘s agricultural division, which includes feed, fertiliser and machinery sales, was £5.73m, up from £5.03m in 2003. Engineering broke even after making a loss last year.

But profit in the Food‘s division, where Carrs Flour Mills is the main business, halved to £0.27m.

This was blamed on the under recovery of a 60% hike in the cost of wheat in the first six months of the year.
