Several pre-production versions of Simba Great Plains’ Centurion drill have been working around the country this Autumn, but this was the first chance for many people to see it in work. It’s likely to appeal to farmers in both western and eastern Europe, though ironically not to US farmers who don’t traditionally like intensive cultivation.

The company says that 6m versions will be available for sale this autumn, with 4m and 8m variants coming next year. Cost is expected to be between £70,000 and £90,000, depending on width and spec.

Simba was also showing an auto-reset version of its biggest UK seller, the DTX cultivator. Instead of the usual shearbolts in the legs, this has hydraulic rams with adjustable pressure that automatically swing back into action when the obstruction has safely passed.

It’s available on 3m and 3.5m machines and adds £3,000 to the £20,000 cost of the 3m version.
