WRITTLE College is to receive 1.5 million from the government to assist in the formation of “Centres of Excellence” at the college.

The money will go towards a new technology park and science labs.

Four centres of excellence will be established by September 2003.

The first will cover environmental and rural affairs, which will benefit college courses ranging from Agriculture to Countryside Management and Environmental Conservation.

College principal Professor Mike Alder said: “This will enable Writtle to play an increasingly important role in teaching, research and development activities relating to the environment at a national and global level.”
