1175gns is top for shearling Texel ram

COMMERCIAL lamb producers maintained a keen edge to the trade for commercial shearling rams at the Eastern Texel Breeders Club sale at Banbury.

This was reckoned to be one of the clubs most successful events, with 110 sheep sold out of the 124 on offer.

Top call came in the pedigree section when 1175gns was paid for John Wales 1995-bred ram Ballaglonney Bunter, a son of Wollascott Winning Shot from the vendors Marham flock at Kings Lynn.

This ram was champion at this years Suffolk Show and was bought by W T Redman and Son, Wotton-under-Edge, Glos.

Commercial tups were steady at between 300 and 400gns. The Necton Hall flock owned by E M Spratt, Swaffham, Norfolk sold to 400gns and averaged £393.

Among the other leading averages were sheep from R and B Smiths Slapton flock at Towcester with four levelling at £404.

Averages: 85 commercial shearling rams £310 and seven pedigree shearling rams £397. (Midland Marts)
