1400gns top at Jersey fixture
A MAIDEN heifer reached 1400gns to top the market at Richard Waters Touchwood Jersey herd dispersal sale last week.
The heifer, Touchwood Bragging Baby Oh Baby by Clasic Brilliant Brag VG and out of a Butterboy Felix Design VG dam that had yielded 9767kgs in 305 days, was bought by Derick Frigot of Jisex International for a client in England.
She will remain on the island until foot-and-mouth restrictions have been lifted on the mainland.
A freshly calved heifer also made the 1400gns mark at the sale held at Haut de LOrme, Trinity, Jersey. Touchwood Forget Me Not VG went to Richard Baudin.
Despite the recent introduction of milk licenses (for milk quotas) on Jersey there was plenty of demand for cows with 10 milkers making more than 1000gns each. A well bred second calver Camrose Silver Aurora VG was top producing two-year old in Jersey, yielding 7429kgs at 5.31% butterfat and 3.64% protein in 305 days. She sold for 1350gns.
A new herd set up under the name of the Natalie Syndicate, designed to preserve one of Jerseys most famous bloodlines, purchased eight Natalie bred cows ranging from 600 to 1250gns. The senior stock bull Natalie Quantas King Ex 90 sold for 1300gns.
Averages: 61 cows and heifers in milk and/or in calf £766.93; nine served heifers £485.33; nine maiden heifers £522.66 (Bruton Knowles). *
