200m aid for Canadian farmers

THE Canadian government is preparing an emergency package of aid totalling as much as C$500 million (206m) for its hard-pressed farmers.

The package will add to funds already being pumped into the sector through provincial governments.

Canadas farming crisis has badly affected its grain and oil producers in the prairie provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

This support comes after farmers expressed anger that the government was not doing enough to help them.

Farmers have been disappointed they were not offered the level of help given in the USA or Europe.
