Upland farmers are leading efforts to avert future flooding in two large Welsh towns in an approach to land management that could become commonplace if payments for “public goods” replace food production subsidies post-Brexit. Eight kilometres of hedgerows are being created or restored on up to 20 farms above the towns of Ruthin and St Asaph in Denbighshire to slow the flow of water run-off during periods of heavy rain.
