720gns top call for Welsh Black

THE Welsh Black Cattle Societys summer sale of females at Llandovery produced a top price of 720gns.

Sale leader was Grenig Blodeuwedd, a September 1999-bred heifer in-calf to the AI sire Brysgaga Brenin. She was sired by Bro-Waen Ffefryn and was bought by Mr Lloyd, Four Roads, Llanelli, who paid a further 520gns for another heifer from the Grenig herd.

G and S Williams from Pentyrch, Mid Galmorgan, sold a cow and calf outfit at 660gns. Gathuchaf Cadi II was suckling a January-born bull calf by Cwmcarno Mefyn. Buyer was W A Jones, Caerphilly. Another young cow from the Garthuchaf herd sold at 570gns. This entry had a Mefyn heifer calf at foot.

The Countess of Dysart from Abergaenny sold 17 out-wintered maiden heifers to average £303.
