A suckler market

SUCKLER cows which should have been culled on the OTMS scheme may find a market later in the year, if there is a shortage of animals for producers restocking.

Many cull cows remain on farm as stock cannot go on the OTMS scheme, says Signet consultant Geoff Fish. He believes that a market for cull cows may develop as any type of cow can count towards suckler premium claims.

"Producers with plenty of grass could turn these cows out and keep them cheaply until autumn." &#42
