Access wheat on offer

OUT-AND-OUT yield with good standing power is the promise from a newly-launched feed wheat variety.

Access, the highest yielding variety on the UK Recommended List, could bring growers more than 12t/ha with careful management, says John Blackman of breeder CPB Twyford.

He says it is also the shortest variety on the Recommended List. "This will allow growers to properly exploit the early-sown slot utilising high nitrogen inputs without fear of lodging."

In NIAB early-sown trials Access averaged 10.5t/ha and as a first wheat 10.7t/ha. But Mr Blackman says that by managing the variety properly, he has seen it achieve 12.3t/ha in trial. &#42
