ADAS guide to top value sires

TOP 20 value for money black-and-white dairy sires available in the UK are listed in the newly published ADAS Breeding Guide.

All 20 bulls have a minimum 70% reliability, average or above type, a net present value of £65 or better (NPV is a revised ITEM calculation, less semen price), minimum 750kg for milk and protein deviation of no more than -0.05.

Top bull meeting the above criteria is Southwind son Holim Tornedo, who has a NPV of £82 on a list price of £20 a straw. Second in the ranking is the Blackstar son Delaberge Alcan with an NPV of £75, on a straw cost of £10.

Also in the guide, but not necessarily meeting the above criteria, are the top 30 proven bulls available in the UK ranked on NPV, ITEM, combined fat and protein kg, legs and feet, capacity, udders and suitability for use on heifers.

ADAS claims the guide provides valuable independent advice on sire selection for farmers seeking best value for money.

It is available at £25 from ADAS Starcross (01626-892636). &#42
