ADASgoes on restructuring to check costs

ADAS is continuing to restructure in an effort to lower costs and improve profitability.

The ADAS Dairy Group, which includes the dairy consultancy and services, will run as a separate business from Apr 1, although it will remain under ADAS ownership.

The move follows a similar reshuffle in January, when the arable consultancy was formed into a separate limited company under the ADAS umbrella.

It will enable the divisions to operate from a lower cost base, giving them a greater chance to compete on an equal footing, says ADAS group operations director, Colin Speller.

"They were not as successful as we would have liked and we wanted to be able to answer the question [of profitability] on a fair and reasonable basis.

"A sell-off is not on the cards at the moment, but we have a completely open mind and will make judgements as we move forward."

Ian Powell will head the group jointly with Nick Holt-Martyn.

"ADAS Dairy Group will continue to provide the services the industry has come to expect, including a range of new initiatives to help clients develop their business," says Mr Powell. These include the new Milk Cheque Interactive, and an interactive bull selector.

While there are no firm plans to spin off more companies, the next two to three months could see similar arrangements in other divisions, says Mr Speller. &#42
