POSITIVE ventilation of boxed potato stores is now available from Scottish firm, F J Pirie.
Badged Pirie Aspire, the system is based on the same ventilating principle as used by the firms Boxer portable crop drier.
In simple terms, an extractor fan sucks air out of channels between stacks of boxes, drawing air from the outside of each box to the centre channel. This creates an effective, uniform air flow pattern, the firm says.
Air is then sucked into timber ducting along the side of the store. Supply fans are also included to balance the air being withdrawn from the building . *
