Agco wraps up Challenger deal

By Andy Collings

AGCO has announced that its acquisition of Caterpillars Challenger business has now been completed. The deal gives Agco the design, assembly and marketing rights for the new MT Series Challenger tractors with machines manufactured, as before, in DeKalb, Illinois.

Completion of the acquisition will now allow Agco to announce its marketing plans for the Challengers and answer some burning questions. For example, many UK farmers will want to know: How will the Claas operation be affected? And will the Challenger be available from Agcos dealers?

It will also be recalled that Claas is purchasing Caterpillars 50% share in the North American Lexion combine production venture based at Omaha, Nebraska bringing to an end Caterpillars direct involvement in agricultural machinery manufacture. &#42
