Agricultural reform ‘essential for Euro’

REFORM of the common agricultural policy (CAP) is essential if the Euro is to be a stable currency, according to Joschka Fischer, German foreign minister.

Herr Fischer said the Euro could be destabilised if the European Union (EU) failed to make reform of its institutions, including the CAP.

Germany, which holds the rotating EU presidency, has pencilled in 26 February for a possible informal summit aimed at ensuring a final deal on the CAP.
