Agriculture high on the US agenda
A BILL to pump $10bn in aid towards US farmers will be high on the agenda when Congress resumes business today (Wednesday) after a month long debate.
President Bill Clinton is asking Congress to approve the funding but the Republican-led chamber is set to oppose the amount and several other issues.
Among the battles will also be the issue of the resumption of Americas agricultural trade with Cuba.
Legislation in the pipeline would exempt food and medicine from unilateral trade embargoes which have been in place since the accession of Castro in the 1950s.
