America attacks in EU-USA banana split

CHARLENE BARCHEFSKY, US trade representative, was on the warpath over the European Unions failure to solve trade disputes involving bananas and beef.

She repeated criticism of the EUs banana regime. “We are done litigating this case. We have won the case. We have made it very, very clear that we will enforce the rights we have acquired in the litiations.”

She ruled out the US taking unilateral action against the EU.

She was also critical of the EUs attitude on genetically modified products and hormones in beef.

“The process in Europe is tortuous for product approval, opaque for product approval and highly politicised and therefore arbitrary.”
