LIVE ANIMAL entries number 806 at this year‘s Smithfield Show; the highest since 1996, said show chairman Bob Humphrey as the show opened on Thurs (Dec 2).

Beef and lamb entries total 542, which is 22 up on the last event and nearly 200 livestock exhibitors are showing their stock at this year‘s show.

Pigs are also making their first appearance at the event for many years as part of the new Profitable Meat Production Area.

Mr Humphrey confirmed that a new joint venture created between Haymarket Exhibitions and the Royal Agricultural Society of England, known as Haymarket Land Events, will be responsible for the management of all future RASE events and The Smithfield Show.
