Animal welfare to top agenda at veterinary meeting
THE annual Welsh meeting of the British Veterinary Association in Cardiff tomorrow is expected to hotly debate animal welfare issues in the depressed farm livestock sector.
President Ted Chandler will call on all sectors to pull together to ensure the retention of a viable industry and proper care of farm animals.
There is concern about a reduction in the number of veterinary call-outs that could lead to animal welfare problems in the short term and more serious health problems in the long-term.
The current issue of the Veterinary Record urges the Government to drop charges by the Veterinary Laboratories Agency and the Scottish Agricultural College for the diagnosis of farm animal clinical diseases. The Scottish Office has agreed to keep it under review.
