Anne McIntosh to chair EFRA committee

Tory MP Anne McIntosh has been elected to lead the influential environment, food and rural affairs select committee.

Miss McIntosh is MP for the rural seat of Thirsk and Malton and was a shadow DEFRA minister under the previous administration.

Miss McIntosh will take up the position formally when the remaining members of the committee are nominated by the House in the coming weeks.

The EFRA committee’s role is to examine the expenditure and policy of DEFRA and its associated bodies such as Natural England and the Rural Payments Agency.

The former chairman was Conservative MP Michael Jack.
