Apec softens export subsidy stance

THE 21 members of the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation have backed away from an earlier pledge to press for the abolition of farm export subsidies.

The member countries, meeting in New Zealand, said they would simply support an abolition of farm export subsidies in a new trade round.
