Appeal against beef-on-the-bone case dismissal
THE Crown has lodged an appeal against Selkirk Sheriff Courts decision to throw out the beef-on-the-bone case against hotelier Jim Sutherland.
Sutherland was prosecuted after a high-profile farmers prohibition dinner of roast rib of beef at The Lodge, Carfraemill, near Lauder, five days after the regulations were introduced last December.
Sheriff Paterson threw out the case earlier this week arguing that the ambiguous wording of the new regulations made it unenforceable.
