Two-week-old pedigree Poll Dorset lambs at Hollywell Sheep, Bow Brickhill, Bucks, where Angela Burtenshaw runs 400 mainly Poll Dorset ewes on 24ha (60 acres) plus seasonal grazing. The first of the early born lambs are by Poll Dorest tups and will be sold for breeding; the rest will be Suffolk and Charollais crosses, and will catch the Easter lamb trade.

Tudor Jones (far left) chats to Idris Richards from whom he bought Roy, a 12-month-old sheepdog. The deal was done at last weekends auction at Tregaron, Dyfed. Meanwhile in the sale field (above), another entry gets put through its paces. The days top price came for a Nov 1993-born entry which went for £630. Secured, no doubt, by dogged determination on the part of the buyer.
