As elsewhere, the finished cattle trade remains precarious at Selby, N Yorks. The market saw medium-weight steers and heifers average 97.4/kg and 100.5p/kg respectively last Friday. By Monday (Aug 2), the national average for medium-weight steers was 94.8p/kg.

Latest development from Twose of Tiverton in the companys hedge trimming department is the launch of two models – the 52S and 58S – equipped with power slew. Hydraulically operated, the system allows the boom to pivot rearwards through 95í and, through the use of relief valves, act as a break-back. Other features include parallel boom linkages, independent hydraulics, electronic switch or proportional control valves, and joystick control. The 52S has a reach of 5.2m (17ft) and the 58S, 5.8m (19ft); prices start at £7750 and £8975 respectively.

With winter around the corner, thoughts turn to winter feeding. Latest development from Twose is this Cutter Grab Bucket designed not only to cut and cart silage but, by folding down a back plate to cover the fork tines, be used for handling loose material. The serrated cutting grab is operated by twin, double-acting hydraulic rams. Available in two widths – 1.42m and 1.71m (55in and 67in) – prices are £1900 and £2200, respectively.
