Heading downwards… pig prices have weakened at Wickham, Suffolk, as elsewhere. Nationally, porkers, cutters and baconers averaged 101p, 97.7p and 93.9p/kg on Monday. Baconers showed the biggest drop on the previous week, down 1.7p/kg, with abattoirs seeking smaller pigs.

The view ringside at Tythegston Court Farm, Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan, where 229 Holstein Friesians were recently dispersed for C &#42 Knight & Partners. Overall average was £581. Top price of 900gns came for a heifer, due with her second in December, who had given 6850kg at 4.89% butterfat and 3.77% protein in 294 days. Next best came in at 770gns. Aimed at the pig, poultry and dairy producer, the new range of mobile mill and mix plants from Lister Taylor offers output rates of up to 5t/hour. The largest is claimed to have a carrying capacity of 5t and the range includes models capable of milling and incorporating straw to a level of 5% by volume. Prices start at £18,700.

The ATV attachment market took another step forward recently. Buffalo Trailer Systems introduced a trailer which, through the use of solid or mesh sides, dividing gates, ramps or tail gates can be used for a variety of tasks around the farm – from sheep movement to carting fencing materials. The trailer is available in four sizes from 1.5m x 0.9m up to 2.9m x 1.2m (5ft x 3ft up to 9ft 6in x 4ft) each with a choice of on or off-road wheels and tyres. Prices start at £700.
