Pankymoor Prelude, a Suffolk ram that has sired progeny worth £1m, made a guest appearance at the show – for a well earned rest. The five-year-old ram, sire of the 68,000gns breed record breaker Muiresk King of Diamonds, is owned in partnership by Shropshire breeders Stan and Robyn Hulme (pictured), the Mair family from Aberdeenshire and Jimmy Douglas.

Harvest is underway – but a lack of sunshine is being blamed for a drop off in yields of winter barley, from 6.8t/ha (2.75t/acre) to 5.6t/ha (2.25t/acre), at Sir George Meyricks, East Close Farm, Hinton Admiral, Dorset. Meanwhile a lack of pesticides is the reason for the swathes of poppies on the 520ha (1300 acre) Shrublands Estate, Ipswich, Suffolk where farm manager Raymond Page limits sprays to aid bio-diversity.
