Astamp of confidence

Astamp of confidence

JUST before Christmas last year I bought a few rubber stamps, with the intention of making my own Christmas cards. The shop was packed with thousands of different stamps and accessories for creating hand-stamped greetings cards and other items, and before I knew it I had enrolled on one of their evening workshops. This was great fun, and after a little practice at home I had mastered the basic skills of rubber stamping and embossing. I was really pleased with the results, and it was nice to be able to give cards that were hand-made instead of the usual run-of-the mill commercially produced ones Id sent in previous years.

So having tried my hand at this craft, I was very interested when a new book, All you need to know about rubber stamping, arrived in our office. True to its name, it is a beautifully illustrated guide covering all aspects of stamping. It contains all the basics for the beginner, explaining the types of stamps available, the difference between dye-based and pigment-based stamp pads, and the best types of paper and card to use with each of these.

Techniques such as masking, embossing and three-dimensional cut-outs are clearly described step-by-step with colour photographs showing each stage. In addition, the author has provided "Watchpoint" boxes containing useful tips and information. For example "Glitter glue will make felt-tip ink run, so be careful where you apply it", which could help prevent the disappointment of ruining an otherwise good piece of work through a lack of basic knowledge of the materials.

This book is a real inspiration, containing a wealth of ideas and all the information necessary for anyone with a little patience and imagination to start stamping with confidence!MP
