B&W dispersal sale popular

ONE of the seasons largest on-farm Holstein Friesian herd dispersals brought 340 animals in front of a huge crowd of buyers at Scarborough where the Dawnay herd sold twice to 2000gns.

A change of policy for Wykeham Farms – which set up the herd two years ago – drew more than 100 buyers.

First at 2000gns was Tankersley Skychief Tyna, due in November with her second after a heifer lactation of 7516kg. Buyers were J W Tinkler and Son, Ilkley, West Yorks.

An in-calf Counselor heifer out of a 10,700kg VG87 Lindy dam shared the top price. Due this month to Integrity, she was taken by Geoff Ullyott.

Maiden heifers reached 1650gns for a Fatal daughter claimed by T N Cameron, Coleraine, Co Down, and 1000gns was given for a heifer calf at foot when D P Day, took Dawnay Formation Frivole for his Bickleygate herd on Teesside.

Averages: 159 milking cows and heifers £978; 44 served heifers £938; 68 maiden heifers £614. (Wright-Manley) &#42
