Backbencher plans right-to-roam bill
GORDON PRENTICE, Labour MP for Pendle, is to bring in a bill to enforce the right to roam across open countryside.
The move puts pressure on the Labour Government which pledged to introduce a right to roam, but has opted to consult on the issue instead of legislating.
The freedom of access to parts of the countryside has widespread support within the Parliamentary Labour Party.
More than 200 MPs signed a Commons motion tabled by Mr Prentice last month calling for legislation to enforce access rights.
