Badger project visit
JUNIOR farm minister Angela Browning will next week visit a leading Irish research project as part of MAFFs review of its bovine tuberculosis policy.
Mrs Browning will visit the East Offaly badger research project in the Republic of Ireland, where interim reports have suggested a strong link between cattle tuberculosis and badgers.
Studies since the project began in 1989 have shown an 80% fall in the number of cattle reactors when badgers were removed from a selected area.
The visit follows a report presented by Leonard Dole, head of the East Offaly project, to MAFFs Badger panel. *
