Bare land snapped up

IN LESS than quarter of an hour five lots of bare land in South Yorkshire were snapped up by neighbouring farmers at a recent auction.

The grade 3 land, part of New Lodge Farm, Penistone, near Barnsley included 65.5 acres of arable and pasture. Overall the sale achieved £305,000 with the pasture averaging £4014/acre and the highest price paid was £5666/acre for 8.65 acres of arable land.

For sale due to the retirement of the farmer, auctioneer Paul Dixon, Wm Sykes & Son said: "I didnt think land prices were too good at the moment, but this was an exceptional sale in an area where little comes onto the market and there was keen demand from the local farming community."
