BARLEY futures remained untraded yesterday (Monday), as Sterling strengthened to a 10-year high against the Deutschmark.

The Pound closed at DM3.099. According to the Home-Grown Cereals Authority, barley export prices have gained some support from intervention over the past week and have firmed by £2/ tonne.

Total offers to intervention so far this season are rapidly approaching 1.2 million tonnes, according Intervention Board officials.

Ex-farm barley on the open market is currently priced at £66-68/ tonne, depending on quality.
