Barley no longer poor relation

BARLEY is no longer the poor relation. With yields of 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre) in places, and malting premiums, gross margins have been very good.

"Orders started coming in last November and by harvest we were virtually sold out of Gleam, Fanfare and Regina," says David Neale of Dalgety.

"That was despite having to wait for further IOB comments on Fanfare and Gleam, ex this years crop, with Regina still to await full approval next year having achieved its provisional status."
