Barley performers

WINTER barley results from ADAS Crop Centres heavy land site in Bedfordshire confirm the increasing dominance of Muscat amongst six-row varieties.

Although all varieties gave low specific weights on the droughted site, Muscat outdid six-row competitors and matched two-row Rifle, Vertige and Gleam, says ADASs national crop centres manager David McKnight.

Early indications are that Regina is yielding well, as are feed barley candidates Vertige and Peridot, he adds. Candidate varieties Jewel and Baton yielded like Pastoral, while Fanfare only just topped the sites 7.58 t/ha (3t/acre) average yield.
