Dairy Crest Direct, the producer group that represents Dairy Crest’s direct suppliers, has a new chairman following Brian Barnett’s decision yesterday (Mar 10) to stand down.
DCD Board members elected Richard Weaver from Redditch. The group was formed one year ago to represent the 1,400 direct supply farmers.
Speaking at a board meeting yesterday. Mr Barnett said: “Twelve months ago I said I would see the group through its first year. The year is now up and I feel this is the right time to stand down.”
“Setting up this organisation has been a time-consuming but fulfilling task, and I feel that Dairy Crest producers now have a truly successful representational body with a highly committed and capable team to lead them forward.”
Mr Barnett will remain a forum member and plans to continue to represent Waitrose Select Farm producers.
New chairman Richard Weaver said: “Brian‘s vision was the driving force behind the formation of our organisation, and he is held in high regard by all sectors of the dairy industry.
“We have a strong board of directors at DCD, and I am confident that we shall achieve continued success on behalf of our members.”
