Bee virus poses threat to farming
VARROA mites are threatening arable farming.
The mite has hit Englands indigenous honey-bee population. The parasite lives in honey bees and is now in 51 counties across England and Wales.
The bee plays an important role as the leading natural pollinating agent for 80% of the UKs plant species.
The pest has become a serious problem in Europe with estimated high, albeit ill-documented, costs to agriculture.
