THE European Commission is expected to announce an end to the three-year ban on British beef exports next week. 1 August is tipped to be the date when shipments can resume.

According to the Financial Times, European Union (EU) farm commissioner Franz Fischler is “keen” to implement the decision to end the ban.

The newspaper confirms the British beef industry has now addressed all the concerns of the EU and has been cleared by EU veterinary inspectors.

Herr Fischler is apparently pushing for a decision before the end of the month because he recognises that unless a decision is made then it could be delayed much longer.

Very little business is conducted in Brussels during August because officials take their holidays.

The Meat and Livestock Commission is geared up to start an immediate marketing campaign.
