Bell Friesian bulls take lions share

WILLIAM and Eileen Bells pure-bred British Friesian bulls again dominated the trade at the Border Counties Holstein Friesian Breeders club sale at Carlisle, taking four of the five top prices.

Top bid of 6600gns, however, went to an entry from J D Green- ops Bridgedale herd, Wigton.

Bridgedale Premier, a Feb 1995-bred Dannix son, is out of the Denmire Present family. He went to J N Harrison and Sons, Wigton, Cumbria.

The Bells locally-based Marshside herd at Kirkbride produced five entries to average 3600gns. Their top was 4600gns given by Messrs Collister, Maryport, for the Fintalex Norman son Marshside Whirlwind 4th, out of the milky Marshside Wallflower 49th. She gave 11,378kgs with her fourth, and has three other lactations over 10,000kgs to her credit.

Averages: 45 bulls £1865. (Harrison and Hetherington)
