Better spray coverage

DEVELOPMENT work with the novel Spraymax sprayer suggests it can significantly improve work-rates when applying potato desiccants, with no loss of efficacy.

The prototype sprayer uses electronic spray charging and air-assistance to improve coverage, allowing a big cut in water volumes.

Trials using Cara for ware in 2001 showed no compromise of haulm destruction or skin set where Reglone (diquat) was used in 58 litres/ha of water rather than the more usual 300 litres/ha, says Ruairidh Bain of the SAC.

The improved coverage of the Spraymax system and the Benest dropleg sprayer could be particularly useful where either only one desiccation treatment is planned or where a desiccant is applied prior to sulphuric acid, he says. &#42
