Bibby quota claim
MILK producers are being promised the chance to produce 20% more milk without exceeding quota by feed compounder Bibby. It claims its new oil blend cuts milk fat by 1%.
It says the feed ingredient, available in two compounds or as a pre-mix for complete diets, is thought to inhibit fat synthesis in the udder. Trials have been carried out on two farms.
One 120-cow unit reduced milk fat from 4.05% to 2.81% over five weeks and also saw increases in milk yield and protein, says Bibby.
The other 190-cow set-up reduced fat from 4.15% to 2.86% without affecting milk yield or protein content. When the blend was removed from the diet milk fats rose again. *
