Bidders compete for Proudlove B&Ws
A TRADE well above expectations delighted the Proudlove family from Haslington, Crewe, when they dispersed their Kennick Holstein Friesian herd to a top price of 1850gns.
The family, who have been milking cows at Winterley Pool Farm since 1936, offered 310 head; with the 185 cows and heifers averaging £841, 43 maiden heifers £769 and 62 maiden heifers £439.
"All in all it was a wonderful trade. Although there were 62 successful purchasers many potential customers went home with empty trailers," said auctioneer Clive Norbury.
With a herd average of 8729kg at 4.10% butterfat and 3.36% protein and with 122 head offered with an Index above 800, the day saw some competitive trading which peaked at 1850gns for a six week calved heifer.
Claimed by J * Shropshire, of Market Drayton, this daughter of Vir-Clar Camero is out of a heavy milking 11,644kg dam by Keopon Feikje Encore. She was giving 42kg a day.
A VG daughter of Skalsumer United Progress on her first note and due in December to Maughlin Storm made 1640gns to C Stone, of Ross-on-Wye.
Denis Lomas, of Congleton, paid 1500gns for a freshly calved Slocum heifer, one of 46 lots to make over 1000gns. Young cattle twice made 1020gns. The bids came for in-calf heifers by Esquimau and Slocum; both in-calf to Lord Lily for July. October calving heifers sold to 850gns.
The lively trade continued for bulling and maiden heifers with 620gns given for a seven-month-old Slocum heifer. (Wright-Manley).
