Bidders take instant shine to Ayrshire cattle

A GOOD crowd produced a lively trade for Ayrshire cattle when Chris Eddy of Penzance dispersed his Sea-N-Jay herd at Hallworthy Stockyard to a top price of 1300gns.

The sale, which also saw two heifer calves head for Northern Ireland at 210gns and 220gns apiece, brought three breeders together to pay the top price for Velvet Elma. This second calver is by Ardrossan EV Kate Trident and was bought by Mark Evans of the Eastchurch herd at Honiton partnered by Cornwall red and white enthusiasts Julian Walters and David Hodge.

Mr Evans, buying independently, gave 950gns for Tangerine Blossum, a 7247kg third calver by Brocklehill Happy Spirit. And W R C Christopher, who runs the Rosehill herd near Truro, paid 650gns for Honey V Lark, a Pylon Cowboy daughter due with her second. In-calf heifers sold to 700gns.(K V N Stockdale). &#42
