Bids for Charity reach 3000gns

THE biggest dairy dispersal ever seen in the UK kicked off on Monday, when the first offering from the 1500-head Charity herd was sold in Cheshire.

Based at Stretton Farm, Malpas, Charity is one of the highest indexing herds in the country, with its three units all ranking in the UKs top 13 herds for ITEM.

Auctioneers Wright-Manley reported a top price of 3000gns paid for Charity Mieke 15 (VG85). One of the outfits many Dutch imports, and a daughter of Skalsumer Sunny Boy, she had given 9525kg as a heifer. (She had calved with her second in June.) Her heifer calf by Haldrey Leadership led this section at 720gns.

The average price for 275 cows and heifers in milk was £825, which included 41 calves at £425.

The remaining three sales for Messrs S and M Chantler occur between now and December.
