Big Jack backing visitors campaign

Footballing hero Jack Charlton has thrown his weight behind a campaign to win back visitors to the rural north-east.

The star has written a foreword to a new brochure produced by the North Northumberland Farm Holiday Group, launched at last weeks Royal Show.

The initiative will, he hopes, raise awareness of the region. "It gives so many people a chance to find out more about what I would call the forgotten jewel up here in Englands crown," he says.

The Group, part of the Farm Stay UK network, has also launched a website. It features the 24 members who offer B&B and self-catering accommodation on family farms, eight of who hold English Tourist Board Gold or Silver awards.
