Biology professor backs GM foods
A PROFESSOR from the Institute of Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Edinburgh has backed GM food.
In a letter to The Independent, Anthony Trewavas writes that only ignorance leads people to conclude that organic food is better than its intensively farmed equivalent.
Prof Trewavas says that organic farmers spray their crops with detergents, pyrethrum and also add a couple of inorganic minerals to the soil.
Genetically modified (GM) crops would virtually eliminate the practice, he writes.
