Birdseye LEAF plan
FOOD giant Birdseye has announced that all its pea growers for next season must be members of the Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) scheme.
Colin Wright, senior agricultural manager with the firm, said the requirement would then be extended in following seasons to other crops not covered by retailer protocols.
"We see this move giving us part of a complete audit trail so that we can ensure consumer and customer confidence," said Mr Wright. It also incorporated a degree of environmental sensitivity into production, he added. *
