Birmingham Council bans eggs

BIRMINGHAM City Council has banned the use of fresh eggs in all council-owned elderly peoples homes after a salmonella scare.

Caterers have been told fresh eggs, even when cooked, hold a risk of salmonella infection and asked to use pasteurised liquid egg in their place.

Bob Judges, assistant director of adult services said: If one person develops salmonella poisoning it could spread to others very quickly.

The advice we have been given is there is a clear danger to peoples health if fresh eggs continue to be used, we must accept that advice.

Fresh eggs would be back on the menu once the all clear was given, he added.
