Black milk case
THE first milk buyer to be prosecuted over alleged black market milk trading is Staffordshire farmer Michael Harvey.
Mr Harvey, Wickenstone Farm, Biddulph Moor, Stoke-on-Trent, faces 39 charges. He is accused of purchasing milk from other farmers without being registered to do so by the Intervention Board.
Other charges include failure to keep records of his own milk production and sales, and failure to ensure that his milk buyer was registered. The case will be heard at Stafford Moorland Magistrates Court on July 27.
Mr Harvey joins the seven dairy farmers charged so far with selling black market milk. Further prosecutions are being considered by MAFF, but it still maintains that no proceedings are contemplated against any dairy or haulage company.
