Blair warns Jospin over beef
PRIME Minister Tony Blair has warned French counterpart Lionel Jospin that Britain may take unilateral legal action to get Frances ban on British beef lifted.
Mr Blair made the threat in a frank 10-minute aside with Mr Jospin at the start of an EU summit in Tampere, Finland this morning.
The Prime Ministers spokesman said Mr Blair told Mr Jospin of the strength of feeling on the issue.
“The Prime Minister said there was considerable anger in Britain at the way the French safety body and the authorities were behaving with regard to the issue of British beef,” the BBC report the spokesman saying.
France has refused to accept British beef despite the EU lifting the ban.
